Sisters Sippin' Tea Tulsa

~501c3 Organization~

Sisters Sippin’ Tea Tulsa Chapter is a diverse, marvelously opinionated, fun group of women!

We meet on the third Saturday of each month to fellowship and discuss great books or not so great books.

At our monthly Sips we indulge in good food and good drinks! We are mothers, grandmothers, sisters, cousins, entrepreneurs, teachers, travel agents, event planners, accountants and caterers. Bundled together and simply stated – we are a Sisterhood.

We travel together and we explore new things. When possible we make an adventure out of the books we read. We’ve discussed books while cruising the Alaskan seas, (TONI by Janele Pasley), while being adventuresome in the streets of cool and artsy Santa Fe. We’ve been in the wilderness on the lake and bolted up tight in a beautiful mansion discussing a murder thriller! (My Soul to Keep by Tananarive Due) We have wandered through the town of Pawhuska examining the places and meeting people that shared with us about the horrific Osage murders that took place there.

Of all the things in the world that you can be,

(Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI) We didn’t escape Pawhuska before walking on the Swinging Bridge built in 1926, a cabled bridge with wood slats that creaks and squeaks when you walk on it. And, of course, you can see through the flooring to the water. Scarry! Some made it all the way across and some didn’t. I was not ashamed!

We have met some awesome authors on this journey. As sistah’s we strongly support and promote African American authors, for it is their gift of story-telling that has remained the catalyst for Sisters Sippin’ Tea. We read all genres and each lady has the opportunity to present three titles for her hosting month for us to select from. We volunteer, some, not like we used to or would like to but we still love our community and will continue to serve, just in a laxed down mode.

Our ladies are exceptional, including our chapter sistah’s. One of the first major and best decisions we made as a group, after extensive research on finding national book clubs, was to unanimously start a SST chapter in Tulsa under the umbrella of our core chapter in Houston, Texas. Seventeen years ago we applied, they accepted! Not only did we meet and grow in sisterly love with a group of phenomenal women from all across the United States, because of our SST reunion gatherings, we have traveled to some astonishing places that we may have missed during this life’s quest. The power of Books!

One thing is certain, we all agree that we’re living our best life now❤

SST Expression of fact:
Founded in February 1992, by former Amistad book club members Karen Brown and Wilhelmina Williams, these pioneers established the guidelines of the club and collaborated the name Sisters Sippin’ Tea.
